Severe Weather and Closure

The decision to close the school is not taken lightly. It is sometimes necessary to consult colleagues within the pyramid before notifying the LA and the local radio. The problem we have is that whilst pupils can walk, virtually all teachers have to travel a distance to school and we are unable to guarantee having sufficient staff to cover classes.

Past experience has shown that the notification from local radio can be delayed and therefore unreliable, so we urge you to note the following:

  • A message will be posted on our website (ensure you 'refresh' your page and keep checking back for the latest info). We will aim to have the message active by 8.00am at the latest.
  • Please continue to listen to local radio in the morning.

Reports will be broadcast on BBC Radio Suffolk (104.6, 103.9 ,95.5 and 95.9FM) at 10 minutes past and 20 minutes to the hour and Heart Cambridge (103 and 97.4FM).

Suffolk County Council has a website which will be used to collate information regarding any school closures resulting from extreme weather conditions. The web address for this website is:

You can also find information regarding school closures on the BBC website.

Schools are usually named individually or schools within certain pyramids. St Christopher's is in the Mildenhall Pyramid of schools.

If the weather is bad during the day and it is decided to close the school, children will not be sent home without parents being informed. We will contact you by telephone; therefore it is essential that if you have changed any of your contact details, we are notified immediately.

Thank you.
